North Lake Trail – Phase 3
In August 2022, Lake County began the North Lake Trail Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study which will evaluate alternatives for the North Lake Trail Phase 3, a segment of the River to Hills regional trail. This study will focus on the trail segment from E. Altoona Road (in Altoona) to State Road (SR) 40 (in Lake County). This trail study area is located within unincorporated Lake County, the Ocala National Forest, Altoona, and Astor Park.

PD&E Study Segment Limits: E. Altoona Road to SR 40

The purpose of the PD&E Study is to review and evaluate the potential impacts of feasible trail alignments for this section of the North Lake Trail. As this evaluation is being completed, the study team will consider the corridor’s setting (including the Ocala National Forest), the need to implement the County’s Trails Master Plan, and public input. There are opportunities for the public to share their ideas and concerns throughout the study by visiting the Outreach page. It is anticipated that this study will be completed Fall 2025.
